Few years ago, I have W2KP, then my brother in-law told me that he will update my Windows w/ illegal XP,I can't update, can I reformat my computer back to to my older W2KP?

On my dell laptop inspiron 5000, running W2KP, when viewing a dvd or other source, only half the screen upper half shows, with the bottom half displaying vertical lines. any ideas will be appreciated. thanks.i bet if you hook up an external monitor you will see it displayed that way...
